Over the course of a week, I had to design a font to practice skills in Adobe Illustrator. First, I had to find inspiration so that the typography tells a story, then draw sketches by hand, which then had to be transferred to Adobe Illustrator and redrawn.
Then I had to create examples of the font in use using the 3D program.

Due to the short time for the project, I only had to create letters for one word.

I was inspired by Japanese culture, style and sport. The sharp lines of samurai swords, the soft shapes of Japanese craftsmanship and the edge of their architecture.

The font name Kaihatsu means development, which I chose because as a student, I am constantly evolving, while the whole process of creating design, including a font, is one long process of developing an idea.
